All in all you’re just another brick in the wall

Back again on the POTUS subject.
So today Mr. Trump signed an Executive Order (BORDER SECURITY AND IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT IMPROVEMENTS) and of course he stresses that

„Transnational criminal organizations operate sophisticated drug- and human-trafficking networks and smuggling operations on both sides of the southern border, contributing to a significant increase in violent crime and United States deaths from dangerous drugs.“

I had a bad feeling concerning the truthfulness of this statement and checked US statistics on crimes (superficially, I admit). The second I saw the figures I almost felt greatful for the political situation I live in just now here in Germany. Why? Because the last couple of years I learned not to trust „alternative truths“ and unveil fake news by doing a two or three click research.
If the source (http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/uscrime.htm) is reliable, the rate for violent crimes in the US is almost unvarying. Comparing the years 2010 and 2015 it is DEcreasing. The total number of crimes is significantly decreasing from 3,35% to 2,87%.

It is absolutely necessary to secure borders. No doubt about that. But looking at these figures I’m tempted to believe that the situation has not changed very much these last years. Maybe I don’t see the big picture but I doubt that it is the right thing to do to sign an Executive Order containing false propaganda. Yeah, alright, who am I kidding.

By the way: drug abuse is not mentioned in the top ten death causes of the US. Maybe someone should check why heart disease is number 1 and why health care is way more important than spending money on this wall – oh wait, the Mexicans have to pay, I forgot.

Oh and concerning that wall: assuming it is supposed to control the flood of Latinos/Hispanics here’s another fun fact: about 21% of the white population in the US is Hispanic/Latino. That’s not what I’d call Aliens. That’s what I call part of culture.

Another part of the United States population are Asians. And in 2015 about 400.000 people from Asia immigrated (lawfully) to the US. Compared to 157.000 from Mexico. Let’s just build a wall across the Pacific. (https://www.dhs.gov/sites/default/files/publications/Yearbook_Immigration_Statistics_2015.pdf).

Let me finish this rant with another part of the Executive Order, I will call it The Wall:

„Sec. 2.  Policy.  It is the policy of the executive branch to:

(a)  secure the southern border of the United States through the immediate construction of a physical wall on the southern border, monitored and supported by adequate personnel so as to prevent illegal immigration, drug and human trafficking, and acts of terrorism;“

Oh well, at least he has not been quoting Walter Ulbricht.
